The Solar Waffle Works
Founded in October 2009, the Solar Waffle Works is Portland's first solar powered food cart, operated by students in Portland Public Schools' Community Transition Program, designed to give them entrepreneurial experience in creating and managing a small business as well as hands-on training in food service and environmentally sustainable practices.
A partnership project between the SolTrekker organization and the Community Transition Program (CTP), the Solar Waffle Works supports under-served young adults as they transition to life after high school. It provides CTP students with one-on-one support and on-site training in creating and managing a business that employs sustainable practices to reduce its ecological footprint. Students graduate the program with a tool-kit of skills involved in starting a business, as well as customer service skills that can assist them in being competitive for living wage jobs. All school hour profits from the cart go to support the CTP, while after hours and weekend profits go to support SolTrekker educational programs.
Alternative Field Trips
The mission of this expanding SolTrekker program is to provide alternative field trips free of charge to K-12 schools in the Pacific Northwest in order to educate low-income and underserved children and adolescents about renewable energy and sustainable practices. These field trips are designed to bring the schools a low emission field trips involving transporting students to remote locations using petroleum powered school bus fleets.
RV Greening
The mission of this program is to provide advocacy and educational resources for green build retrofits to the RV and bus enthusiast community in North America. We are offering services to help others to create their own eco-RVs. We will retrofit existing RVs with green building and renewable energy technologies, either performing the complete build, specific parts of the build or simply consulting for those who would like to do most of the job themselves but would like experienced advice. Those interested can contact us to chat about the possibilities or receive quotes.
General Presentations .
SolTrekker President/Founder Ty Adams can be booked as a speaker/performer to lighten up a crowd and share the wild experiences that unfolded since 2006, when he left his desk job, sold his house and spent nearly all of his savings to hit the road for a year in a biodiesel-fueled motorhome to become a sustainability advocate, traveling 25 states and 20,000 miles. He has spoken at elementary schools, expos, music festivals and colleges around the U.S., including rousing guitar performances of his non-award winning biodiesel song, "The World Needs a Lubricant Now," perhaps the best folksy lubricant-focused biodiesel song ever written.
